Hungarian police search for Ákos Buzsáky, ex-FC Porto and Académica midfielder | OneFootball

Hungarian authorities have launched a search for Ákos Buzsáky, the former FC Porto and Académica midfielder, who was last seen in Budapest on 18 August. The 44-year-old won the Portuguese title and UEFA Cup with Porto in 2002/03 under José Mourinho.

Blikk reported that his father, also named Ákos Buzsáky, considered the absence unsurprising, saying his son often spends extended periods in Greece working as a contractor and that they spoke last week when he was at home.

Hungarian police have listed the former international’s profile on their official website, though no reason for the search has been disclosed.

Buzsáky retired from football in October 2015 due to physical issues, and in October 2022 he said on a podcast that he had struggled with addiction involving gambling, alcohol and drugs.

A product of MTK Budapest, he joined Porto in 2002 aged 20, initially with the B team, and made three league appearances and one in the UEFA Cup before a loan to Académica. He moved to Plymouth Argyle in 2005, then spent eight years in England including five at Queens Park Rangers, playing in the Premier League in 2011/12. Queens Park Rangers have expressed concern for their former player.

He won 20 caps for Hungary, scoring two goals.
