Anticipation has been building for Anderlecht fans regarding the signing of exciting Mexican winger César Huerta. As Het Laatste Nieuws report, the 24-year-old arrived in Belgium on Wednesday as Les Mauve et Blanc looked to beat Osasuna to the punch and sign the highly touted Pumas UNAM player for a discounted price as he enters the final six months of his contract.
“I am happy and looking forward to starting,” Het Nieuwsblad reported upon his arrival. “The people from Anderlecht came to see me live and invited me to come and see the facilities. From the first moment they made me feel that they were really interested. That is why I finally said yes.”
Huerta consulted his mother – who will be living with him in Belgium – and Pumas teammate Lisandro Magallan, (ex-Anderlecht and Ajax), before making his choice.
“I am sure I made the right decision. When will I be able to play? I don’t know. First I’ll do my medical and then hear what the coach expects of me. (I’ll) make sure I can deliver on that.”
Huerta has scored six goals and registered four assists in all competitions this season and has a market value of six million euros. However, his contract with the Universitarios expires at the end of this season, meaning Anderlecht can sign him for a fractionally cheaper sum.
Europa League football played a big part in Huerta choosing Anderlecht over La Liga side Osasuna. That said, the pacey wideman will have to watch the purple-whites take on both Viktoria Plzen and Hoffenheim from the sidelines later this month, as new players can only be added to the European roster after the competition’s league phase.
Huerta’s imminent arrival has all but decided the future of Southampton loanee Samuel Edozie. The 21-year-old’s move did not include a permanent option, and it seems unlikely that the Lewisham-born winger will be pursued any further after being recalled to the English south coast.
