Lionel Messi has been a hot topic in Barcelona circles lately, especially after it was revealed that the Argentine is going to attend the club’s 125th anniversary ceremony.
Now, in a recent interaction, Messi has opened up about his desire to return to Barcelona. He also offered his thoughts on Barça’s electrifying start to the season, among other things.
Messi did not shy away from expressing his love for the city of Barcelona, sharing just how much he is connected to the town.
“My kids were born here. I’ve spent my whole life living there. I feel I belong to Barcelona,” he said (h/t Fabrizio Romano).
Messi, who left Barcelona in 2021, currently plies his trade for Inter Miami. However, his future at the club has come into focus, with the forward’s contract expiring in the summer of 2025.

Talking about Barcelona, the Argentine admitted he would always like to return to the city one day.
“My family and I always think about the possibility of returning to live there one day,” he added. “My children, my wife and I miss our life there a lot. We miss our friends”.
It must be noted, though, that the Argentine did not talk about the prospect of returning to Barcelona, but was rather talking about the city.
However, the forward did address Barcelona’s splendid start to the campaign, stating, “I see Barcelona. They are doing great and I’m not surprised at all.”
Messi’s recent statements could be interesting for Barcelona, especially under the current circumstances. With his contract at Inter Miami expiring next year, it will be interesting to see whether or not the club make a last-ditch effort to bring the Argentine back to Camp Nou.
