“I can guarantee” – Fabrizio Romano drops big update on Chelsea manager search

Amongst the latest round of Premier League games yesterday, Fabrizio Romano dropped the latest updates on Chelsea manager search.

The transfer expert was speaking in particular about the rumours surrounding former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and Chelsea. It certainly does seem like something is happening there, and the fact that Romano is trying to play it all down, only makes me believe that something is bubbling up there but they obviously want to try and keep it as quiet as possible.

Speaking on his latest YouTube updates in quotes relayed on X, Romano said:

“I can guarantee that Liverpool this year [2026] never made any direct approach with Xabi Alonso or his agents. I can guarantee nothing is advanced or concrete on Xabi Alonso to Chelsea. Xabi Alonso is ready to restart. He is very open to opportunities around Europe if he can find the right project. There will be an end of season review at Liverpool.”
