John Obi Mikel has stated he can’t understand why Chelsea didn’t go and buy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer.
The Blues had a good window on the whole, and made six first team signings, five of which were attackers, as the front line underwent a major revamp.
Chelsea also signed Jorrel Hato as they finally addressed a lack of back-up at left back for Marc Cucurella, although the 19-year-old has played just 21 minutes so far this season.
However, despite making some exciting signings there’s still a sense of disappointment that Chelsea didn’t address a couple of key areas.
Fans would loved to have seen a new goalkeeper, and Chelsea were strongly linked with AC MIlan’s Mike Maignan at the start of June.

That deal ultimately didn’t happen, although Chelsea reportedly could look to sign Maignan on a free next summer.
Chelsea were also linked with Donnarumma, although it’s thought no talks took place, and Mikel can’t understand why the Blues didn’t make a move for the Italy international.
“I thought we could have gone out and brought in another top goalkeeper,” he said on his Obi One Podcast.
“There was a certain goalkeeper that was available on the market, Donnarumma. He (Enzo Maresca) could have just gone out and got him.
“I don’t understand why the club didn’t go out and get him.
“He is one of the best goalkeepers right now in the world.”
Not signing a new keeper means Robert Sanchez is once again number one this season, and despite showing signs of improvement over the past few months, many still aren’t convinced.

Chelsea have made a good start to the season defensively, and have conceded just one goal in their opening three games.
However, there’s still a belief Sanchez will end up costing the team points, but only time will tell if he’s turned a corner and eliminated the costly errors from his game.
