During the summer, Daniel Peretz joined Hamburger SV on loan from Bayern Munich with the aim of getting consistent playing time.

However, things haven’t gone according to plan in Northern Germany, with the Israeli goalkeeper behind Daniel Heuer Fernandes in the pecking order and having featured just once so far.

“I expected to be the number one goalkeeper. That hasn’t happened so far. Of course, I’m not happy about it. I don’t hide that. I think no player is satisfied if they aren’t playing. My goal remains to play in every game,” Peretz told Sport Bild, reflecting on his bench role.

Asked whether his loan spell could potentially be cut short, Peretz said:

“I came to HSV to play as many matches as possible. I’m accepting the situation now, taking it game by game, training hard, and trying to give my best every day – to make it as difficult as possible for the coaching staff to leave me out.”

The 25-year-old also revealed that he has had a long conversation with HSV coach Merlin Polzin about his situation.

“After the Heidenheim game in the DFB-Pokal at the end of October, where I was in the starting lineup, we had a very good discussion. I assured Merlin Polzin that I am ready for every game and will give my best until the end to push the team. Overall, I also feel very comfortable in Hamburg.”

Peretz could get a rare chance in HSV’s starting lineup when they face Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday evening.
