‘I have to see’: Amorim confirms new injury scare for United star, ‘tough moment’ after Fulham loss | OneFootball

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed a fresh injury concern following the FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford yesterday.

The Red Devils bowed out of the competition after a disappointing display against the Cottagers. They lost 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 over 120 minutes.

United suffered a late setback with Harry Maguire picking up a knock. He was replaced by winter signing Ayden Heaven for his United debut.

Speaking after the game, Amorim was asked about the centre-back’s condition.

He said: “I have to see how Harry Maguire is. It’s a tough moment in that aspect, but we have to move on. We will be a competitive team on Thursday.”

United are already without Lisandro Martinez for the rest of the season after a serious knee injury.

Amorim does not have the option of playing Luke Shaw or Jonny Evans either. The experienced duo have been out of action with short-term injuries.

The manager introduced Victor Lindelof off the bench to replace Leny Yoro. With Maguire’s late knock, he had no choice but to hand a debut to Heaven.

United visit Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday.

The club’s doctors will examine Maguire in the next 24 hours. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit in time to face the La Liga outfit.

The Red Devils have had two physically demanding outings against Ipswich Town and Fulham. They played the former with 10 men for over 50 minutes.

Despite this, Amorim will expect a strong performance against Sociedad. United are still slight favourites and need to secure a first leg advantage.
