Leah Williamson spoke of her enormous pride after helping Arsenal to Champions League glory by beating Barcelona in Lisbon.

Stina Blackstenius scored the only goal of the game to secure the Gunners only their second ever Champions League crown.

And Williamson hailed her team-mates for the achievement, saying they executed the game plan to perfection.

“I really struggle to find the words without swearing,” she said, reflecting on the achievement.

“I’m just very proud. Very, very happy. We stuck to the game plan and I don’t think anybody put a foot wrong.

“I’ve seen some people have the game of their lives today, if not everybody.

“I didn’t feel very well today actually so I’m just very happy to get through in one piece and I just think everybody did their job.

“If I go back to the Euros with England and the relief of winning, today I feel more proud.”

Arsenal went into the game as significant underdogs with Barcelona chasing their third straight Champions League crown and fourth in five years.

And Willamson says the chance to contribute to the history of the club she grew up supporting is a huge source of personal pride.

“I love this football club and I feel like this football club deserves this,” she continued.

“I grew up watching an incredible team that just won everything. They were such a force and I’ve always wanted to contribute to the history of the club and I’m happy to be a part of this team.

“Barcelona are an incredible team but there’s ways that you can beat them and we had to show that.

“Even in the stadium the Arsenal fans were outnumbered just like away in Lyon but it didn’t matter.

“I’m going to have a very good night and I have no shame in saying it.”
