It’s been a crazy start to 2026 for the Blues, with Enzo Maresca leaving the club on Thursday, and Chelsea are now in the process of finding a new head coach.

Liam Rosenior is believed to be the leading contender for the job, but BlueCo would also need to find a replacement manager for Strasbourg.

Chelsea won’t have their new man in place in time for the City game, so McFarlane finds himself in a position he would never have expected to be in.

He faced the media for the first time on Friday afternoon, and revealed he had spoken to the club’s ownership.

“Yeah, I spoke to the directors and the owners and like I said, they’ve been really supportive,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“They’ve given us everything we need to be successful and nothing more we can ask for.

“They’ve been fully on board and we’re all in it together.”

Chelsea head into the game fifth in the Premier League, but are on a run of just one win in their last seven league matches.

Marc Cucurella could feature against Manchester City

Chelsea are already without the suspended Moises Caicedo, but could be handed a boost with the return of Marc Cucurella.

The Spaniard asked to be taken off against Aston Villa last weekend with a suspected hamstring injury, and missed the draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Cucurella was back out on the training pitch on Friday, but McFarlane couldn’t fully confirm if he would be available and insisted he didn’t have all the information available to him.
