Enzo Maresca has refused to elaborate on his extraordinary outburst after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

In his post-match press conference Maresca revealed he had suffered his “worst 48 hours” since joining the club. Ahead of the Blues’ Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against League One side Cardiff City, the Italian was asked to clarify what he meant by his comments.

But the 45-year-old was adamant there was nothing to add and all focus was on the cup tie in Wales.

“I already spoke about that and I don’t have nothing to add,” Maresca said. “It’s Cardiff tomorrow, please. I already spoke about that and I think I was quite clear. No more than that.

“I respect your opinion and people’s opinion. I have nothing to add. My focus is on tomorrow’s game and that we can achieve the third semi-final in my time at the club.

“We are in an era where everyone can say what they think. I respect people’s opinions, your opinion, but I have nothing to add. My focus is on tomorrow. I already answered the question and my focus is on tomorrow. I don’t have nothing to add.”

Maresca reaffirmed his goal of building a winning mentality at the club, with expectations of him and his side being much higher after their triumphs in the Conference League and Club World Cup last season.

“It’s the main thing. Since I joined the club, I always tried to say the same; building a winning mentality by winning games. Tomorrow is another chance to be in another semi-final and it’s an important moment for everyone at the club. I think we are in the right direction.

“There are some moments where we dropped some points but it is part of the journey. I have the feeling we are getting better and better.

“When you are Chelsea manager, you understand that the expectations are higher. This season, compared to last season, they are even higher. It is something normal when you are Chelsea player or manager.”

The Italian confirmed Cole Palmer will not be available for the Blues as the club continue to monitor his minutes as part of his recovery from his long-term groin injury.
