Reds look set to be boosted by the return of the Dutch midfielder against Aston Villa
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch says he is confident of a return to action against Aston Villa.
The Dutchman suffered a twisted ankle in Liverpool’s last Premier League fixture at Anfield - a 2-1 loss at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester United.
Gravenberch subsequently missed games against Eintracht Frankfurt, Brentford and Crystal Palace. In his absence, the Reds recorded an emphatic win in Germany, but lost the latter two and conceded six goals in the process.
Upon confirming Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones are likely to remain sidelined for the visit of Villa on Saturday night, Arne Slot revealed Gravenberch is in contention for a return to the squad.
"Ryan trained with us yesterday. The other two didn't yet," Slot said in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.
"As I said many times, in the end phase of the injury things can slow down a bit or things can go faster. Let's wait and see where they are.
"Like I said, Ryan trained with us for the first time yesterday, will train with us today. Then we are going to make the call if he is able to start, yes or no.
"The other two are probably 99.9 per cent sure not in the squad [on] Saturday."

Delivering a positive update of his own, Gravenberch looks set to be available for selection at Anfield, thus handing Slot a midfield dilemma.
“Yes, yes. I feel really confident,” he told the club’s official website. “Yesterday I had a session, today as well. If everything is good, I will be there tomorrow.”
The Liverpool team to face Villa will be announced at 6.45pm GMT, ahead of kick-off at 8pm.
Victory for the Reds will see them end a run of four straight Premier League defeats, and get them back on track ahead of massive games against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Liverpool have not lost to Villa in any competition since October 2020, claiming all three points in the corresponding fixture last season en route to being crowned champions of England.
