Iago Aspas explains San Mamés boos and hails stadium after 1-1 draw

Iago Aspas said the jeers at San Mamés followed Celta’s 1-1 draw, putting them down to his scoring record there. “The last few times I have come here, I have scored,” he told DAZN.

The forward came on in the 59th minute, replacing Borja Iglesias.

He was effusive about the ground. “It is one of my favourite stadiums. The best in the top flight. It has more of what I value and, as I am more sentimental, I like it like an old-school player.”

Aspas scored on his previous two visits to Bilbao, although on both occasions the three points stayed at San Mamés.

This season he has played a more secondary role after standout campaigns with the Galicians.
