According to reports in Colombia, Ian Poveda has agreed terms with Inter Bogotá, moving the Sunderland winger closer to a departure from Wearside.
The 26-year-old was the focus of a strong push from the club hierarchy, with Inter Bogotá understood to have moved decisively amid wider interest.
The structure of any deal is unclear, with no word yet on a permanent move or a loan. Financial details have not emerged. Poveda is under contract until 2027, having signed a three-year deal plus option in summer 2024 after leaving Leeds United.
It has been a frustrating spell on Wearside. Earlier in the season, it was suggested that his extended absence from the first-team picture reflected Régis Le Bris’ selection calls rather than injury.
Poveda struggled to establish himself as a regular as Le Bris reshaped the squad, and game time dwindled.
He arrived with pedigree after youth spells at Manchester City and Barcelona, and spells with Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday, but could not secure sustained involvement.
Intense competition for wide roles, tactical changes and injuries saw him slip down the pecking order, casting doubt over his long-term prospects despite his contract length. The situation then worsened after Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League.
If the agreement is completed, it would offer a clean break. Sunderland would gain clarity and squad space, while a return to Colombia could give Poveda regular football and a fresh start. The move remains subject to official confirmation.
