Luciano Spalletti insists he would love Nicolas Gonzalez to stay at Juventus this season as the attacker pushes to leave amid interest from Atletico Madrid in his signature.

The Argentinian attacker spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid and enjoyed his time on their books, with the Spanish side also keen to have him back.

However, throughout the summer, Atletico has failed to meet Juventus’ demands to add him to their squad. That means there is now a strong chance that he will not return, considering there are only a few days left before the transfer window closes.

Gonzalez has said he does not want to play for Juve again, and the club is open to selling him, but they will not allow him to leave on another loan move.

Spalletti wants Gonzalez to stay

As it appears Gonzalez could be forced to remain at the club, Spalletti has spoken about the attacker and said he would love to keep him and give him a place in the team if he stays.

The manager is particularly interested in having options available as he looks for a replacement for the injured Kenan Yildiz. Gonzalez could provide an experienced alternative in the position and may have an important role to play if he remains in Turin.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Spalletti appears ready to welcome Gonzalez back into his plans if the transfer situation is not resolved before the window closes.

Juventus face decision over attacker

The manager spoke about players who can replace the Turkiye international and said via La Gazzetta dello Sport:

“Who can take his place? The company has taken profiles that can replace him because Alajbegovic is used to occupying that position, and someone like Nico Gonzalez, where you put him, knows how to be. Speaking of Nico, if he stays with us I would be very happy.”

Spalletti’s comments make it clear that he would be pleased to have Gonzalez available, despite the player’s desire to leave Juventus.

With Atletico still unable to meet Juventus’ demands and the club refusing to sanction another loan, Gonzalez may have to remain in Turin. If that happens, Spalletti appears prepared to allow him to contribute to the team.
