Bozo moment, brain fart moment, whatever you want to call it. Chelsea fans are always waiting for Robert Sanchez to do it.
And yesterday he reminded us all that he still has these moments in him despite a much better end to last season for the Blues stopper and a decent start to this one as well. It’s important to acknowledge that Sanchez HAS got much better of late, but deep down I think Chelsea fans are always concerned about the fact that he has these moments in him more than most do – he’s unfortunately consistently showed that over time. Yes, he will make some match-winning saves, but is that enough when you know he can easily lose you a game as well?
Either way, he did lose Chelsea this game yesterday by getting sent off after just five minutes when he fouled Bryan Mbeumo. Manchester United went on to win the game 2-1 despite the threat of a late comeback from Chelsea after Trevoh Chalobah found the net with a great header.

On the red card, Maresca said:
“It was better to let Mbeumo score than getting the red card.
“We still had 95 minutes to play… Robert Sánchez is aware of that. It’s difficult… but if you ask me, I prefer to be one goal down after five minutes than one player down.”
Why would you even think about doing something that will clearly get you sent off so early on in a game? What Maresca has said here is just obvious to me, but apparently not to our goalkeeper.
