It was clearly not one of the best displays from FC Barcelona as they were defeated by Real Madrid in the first El Clasico of the 2025-26 season. The Merengues beat the Blaugranes with a 2-1 scoreline after dominating the first half. The Catalans grew more in the game in the second half, but this period also remained an underwhelming affair for the fans.

However, the media still got a lot to talk about from this game as there was a brawl, that involved several players from both the camps, at the very end of the game. Allegedly, the fight broke out after Dani Carvajal rebuked Lamine Yamal for his comments about Real Madrid before the game.

After the game and the fight, the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong talked to the media, and criticized the Merengue players, especially Carvajal, for his behavious towards the young winger. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Dutchman believed Yamal’s words were given a lot more importance than they should have been:

“It was all very exaggerated… If you know Lamine and think he shouldn’t make those statements, you call him privately [referring to Carvajal]. Besides, it’s not that serious. I didn’t hear Lamine directly saying that Madrid was stealing.”

On the other hand, the midfielder also admitted that his team was unable to create the required chances in this match:

“If you’re not sharp, they hit you on the counter and create danger. We’re lacking in creating chances and need to improve. We competed, but it wasn’t enough. In the second half, we controlled the game more, but we still lacked the ability to create danger and clear opportunities.”

With this defeat, Barcelona are five points behind Real Madrid on the La Liga table. As Frenkie de Jong highlighted, the Blaugranes need to eliminate some weaknesses that they showed in this match, but there is still a lot of season left to remain competitive and continue aiming to win the big titles.
