Nottingham Forest could face Thursday's Europa League tie at Sporting Braga without a recognised striker, with Igor Jesus yet to travel after a minor knock in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
Sean Dyche said a late decision may be taken on flying him out if treatment brings improvement, describing it as a knock. According to NY Times, that scenario appears unlikely. Murillo is a doubt but travelled.
Jesus has five goals in four Europa League outings this season. Ryan Yates returns from a hamstring issue sustained at Everton in early December and says he feels ready to contribute and relishes Forest's European campaign.
The shortage up front is, to some extent, self-inflicted. Arnaud Kalimuendo left on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt with an option to buy near the £26 million Forest paid Rennes, and already has a goal and an assist.
Forest are close to a loan for Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca, with an option to make it permanent around €40 million, similar to what Napoli agreed to pay Udinese. Lucca is currently on loan at the Italian champions.
They also expect to complete Iran forward Mehdi Taremi, who topped a shortlist that included Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen. A move should be straightforward via sister club Olympiacos, though a fee is anticipated for the 33-year-old.
With Taiwo Awoniyi omitted from the European squad and last season's top scorer Chris Wood injured, options are thin. Dan Ndoye could lead the line after covering against Arsenal, with Dilane Bakwa another possibility.
