Apart from the obvious issues in midfield, Manchester United could also do with more firepower out wide next summer.
With Ruben Amorim no longer at the helm, the Red Devils are expected to play with a four-man defence and wingers, something the club lacks at the moment.
Marcus Rashford is expected to join Barcelona at the end of his current loan spell, meaning United do not have any world-class left winger at their disposal.
INEOS are expected to correct that in the summer, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye figuring on top of their transfer wishlist.
However, the Toffees have proven to be a tough nut to crack in recent years, as United’s co-owners found out when they tried to lure Jarrad Branthwaite away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The 20-time English league champions submitted two bids for the English defender, only to be knocked back both times.
The team from Merseyside subsequently slapped an unrealistic price tag on the 23-year-old’s head, forcing the Old Trafford side to abandon the race.
United now have their eyes on Everton’s Senegalese winger, and are the favourites to prise him away next summer for £70 million.
As per journalist Ben Jacobs (via Everton News), the Friedkin Group, who are Everton’s owners, are in a strong financial position as opposed to previous owner, Farhad Moshiri.
The owners plan to show their ambition by repeating their Branthwaite trick when United come calling in the summer.
“Having asked around to Everton sources, my view is that this could play out very similar to Jarrad Branthwaite where anyone going for Ndiaye,” Jacobs revealed.
“Manchester United or another team may push and push and push and push and actually Everton’s ambitious owners may do exactly what they did with Jarrad Branthwaite and refuse all offers.”
United do have Yan Diomande on their radar as well, but Iliman Ndiaye represented a Premier League-proven option. It will be interesting to see how this saga unfolds when the summer window opens.
