PARKEN, COPENHAGEN (Bulinews): After an injury-plagued start to his Borussia Dortmund spell, Fabio Silva is steadily getting closer to full fitness.

Following a handful of short cameo appearances, the Portuguese striker was given a bit more time – 27 minutes – on the pitch in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen, and he made the most of it by scoring his first goal for BVB.

Reflecting on the goal in the mixed zone after the game, Silva emphasised his focus on helping the team:

“Of course it’s important to score and help the team. The most important thing is what I do day by day at the club – working, trying to improve and be more sharp to help the team,” Silva said.

“I work hard to feel 100 percent. Everyone pushes me to be ready when the coach puts me on, and I try to do that every single time.”

Asked when he'll get his first start for Dortmund, the striker replied:

“I don’t know when the coach will put me in the lineup. I’m ready to come on. The most important things is to show the coach that I’m here to help – I’m one more player trying to reach his goals. That's what I focus on."

BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, also speaking in the mixed zone, praised Silva for his determination to fight back from injury and the impression he has made since joining from Wolverhampton last summer:

“He’s worked hard and needed a bit of time after his long absence. That’s fully understandable, and we knew that," said Kehl.

“We also knew that after some time in training, he would find his old form and become a very important element for us. He has been an energising influence in every game he's come on in. He rewarded himself with his first goal. For a striker, that’s worth its weight in gold.”
