“I’m really p***ed off”- Pep Guardiola makes admission on Manchester City star after Everton win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola aimed a funny jibe at Erling Haaland after the Norwegian’s brace helped the Blues to a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Haaland scored his 13th and 14th goals in all competitions for Manchester City this season as City maintained their rich vein of form and broke Everton’s resistance to claim another three points to stake a claim in the conversation for the Premier League title.

The 25-year-old is enjoying the best run of form of his career and is single-handedly dragging Manchester City over the line every week – much to the concern of Guardiola, who has repeatedly admitted that his side are on a tightrope with their over-reliance on Haaland.

Nico O’Reilly created the opener as he found space on the left side of the Everton box to provide a delicate cross for Haaland, who rose highest and headed in the opener past Jordan Pickford to continue his brilliant scoring record at home against the Toffees.

When he starts, he can’t seem to stop and there aren’t many defences in world football who can cope with Haaland in the form he is in, with the Leeds-born star netting his second five minutes after his opener as he struck a strong shot past Pickford after Savinho’s cutback to put the game to bed.

City cut a frustrated figure in attack in the first-half as Everton did well to keep the hosts at bay and deny Haaland a chance to feed off scraps, though the Toffees’ resistance was broken in the second-half when the Norwegian decided to take matters in his own hands.

Haaland left the pitch gutted with himself after missing three clear goalscoring chances that would have secured him another Manchester City hat-trick – such is the difference the 25-year-old is making for a Blues side evidently devoid of goal threat when Haaland is not being fed.

Manchester City were not considered title contenders at the start of the season and even the most optimistic fans were sent a reality check after the Blues fell to defeats to Tottenham and Brighton in their opening trio of 2025-26 Premier League games in August.

However, Haaland has single-handedly driven Manchester City back in the title race and as long as the Norwegian is fit and firing, City cannot be ruled out of winning a fifth Premier League title in six seasons.

Guardiola will be very careful with managing Haaland’s workload as the season progresses and despite Haaland bailing City out of jail once again, the Manchester City boss did manage to have his share of fun with Haaland’s misses late on in a post-match interview.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester after the game, Guardiola said: “I’m really p***** off because he (Haaland) could’ve scored four or five, and he scored two!

“Jokes aside, we cannot rely completely on him, we need other players; wingers, attacking midfielders, other ones – they have to make a step up to score goals!”

City cannot afford to lose Haaland to injury and Guardiola, with his coaching staff, will be working behind-the-scenes to find ways to spread the goals around amid concerns over City’s growing, unsustainable reliance on Haaland to score every week.
