Ipswich Town are not prepared to give Blackburn a lead when the clubs meet in their rearranged fixture.

Ipswich Town will ‘not entertain’ giving Blackburn a goal start when they play their rearranged fixture later this season.

The two clubs met at Ewood Park on September 20, and it was abandoned in the 79th minute due to the weather which had made the pitch unplayable.

Rovers were leading 1-0 at the time, and with Jacob Greaves having been sent off for the visitors, Valerien Ismael’s men were on course for a much-needed three points.

Naturally, Blackburn were unhappy with the decision to call the game off, with Ismael calling it a 'disgrace', as they had pushed for the result to stand, or for the game to be resumed from the 79th minute with Kieran McKenna’s side still a player down.

Meanwhile, Ipswich made a case to say the game should be replayed in its entirety, and that’s ultimately what was decided.

Due to the circumstances, some have wondered whether Ipswich would give Blackburn a 1-0 lead given they were ahead at the time, but journalist Rob Dorsett has made it clear that this will not happen.

“Ipswich will not allow Blackburn to score unopposed when their rearranged fixture is played. Blackburn were 1-0 and a man up on 79mins when the game was abandoned. I’m told there’s been no formal request but Ipswich would not entertain the idea of allowing Blackburn to go 1-0 up in the replay.”

Blackburn vs Ipswich replay is sure to be a tense affair

Firstly, it should be said that Ipswich are not breaking the rules by taking this stance, as it has been decided by the EFL that the game should be replayed for a full 90 minutes.

Obviously, that’s what they wanted, and they did get a massive stroke of fortune, as they were going to struggle to get anything from the previous game due to the scoreline and the fact they had ten men.

Therefore, you can understand why some were floating the idea that they should give them a lead, and there’s no denying it would’ve been a very sporting gesture.

But, with so much at stake as they chase promotion, Ipswich are going to take the bit of luck that has come their way, and they will now try to pick up what would be a very important three points when the sides do meet.
