The Deportivo Alavés dugout could be vacant within days, with River Plate close to appointing Eduardo Coudet, according to Superdeporte.

The Argentine club have intensified contacts in recent hours and an agreement appears to be advancing, pending final details. A return home to manage one of the continent’s giants is difficult for the coach to reject. In Vitoria he had instilled competitive edge and stability in a project seeking to consolidate in the top flight, though it has gradually weakened.

Alavés are already working on alternatives. Among the leading candidates are Imanol Alguacil and Quique Sánchez Flores. Alguacil would offer continuity in the playing idea and familiarity with the northern environment. Sánchez Flores brings proven experience and the ability to handle immediate pressure.

At Mendizorroza, Coudet’s possible exit is viewed as a turning point, and also an opportunity to redefine the direction of the project.

The priority now is to end the campaign with safety secured. If the Argentine’s departure is confirmed, the club are working to ensure a replacement arrives quickly and with assurances.
