In PwC Players Talk, Arnaud Kalimuendo discusses his new position, adaptability, his relationship with Jonathan Burkardt, and the role of Michael Zetterer.
Arnaud, what’s your assessment of the 2-0 win against SC Freiburg?“It left a good impression. The team fought a lot and did well overall. We gave everything and deservedly scored two goals.”
You’ve recently played as a wide attacker on the right, and have even been defending as far back as the corner flag. How do you like your new role?“Obviously that’s primarily down to the coach’s ideas. I’m always happy when I can help the team, regardless of my own position. It was incredibly important to win at home. I’m pleased I was able to contribute to that.”
You played alongside Jonathan Burkardt in the starting line-up for the first time. How was that?“Jonny’s a great team-mate. He helps the team a lot, we need his qualities. He helped me a great deal to settle in at Eintracht, and he knows the league well. I knew who he was, even when I was playing in France, so I’m really happy that we soon established a good relationship both on and off the pitch. When you get along with someone, you’re on-field understanding is all the better for it.”
You had to be substituted off with an injury in the previous home game, and at the weekend Kaua Santos got hurt early on. What did you think when that unexpected change had to be made?“I feel very sorry for Kaua. I hope he gets better soon. On the other hand, like in any position, it’s first and foremost not about who plays but that we’re a unit. Michael Zetterer did well, we can rely on him. He plays an important role in the changing room anyway and is a key member of the squad. I recognised that shortly after I arrived. If everyone pulls in the same direction, we can be very successful.”
