Olympique de Marseille’s loanee from Arsenal Ethan Nwaneri (18) spoke at his presentation press conference on Monday, and addressed questions about his potential future beyond the end of his loan in the South of France.Speaking to the media on Monday ahead of Marseille’s Coupe de France round-of-16 clash with Rennes, the 18-year-old was asked about what might come next beyond the end of the season. Nwaneri, who arrived in January for the remainder of the campaign, left all options open.

“In football, anything is possible,” said the England youth international at a presser transcribed by RMC Sport. “We’ll see what happens, whether there are discussions or not. We’ll talk about it at the right moment.”

Nwaneri has only recently joined Roberto De Zerbi’s squad and is still in the early stages of his adaptation to Ligue 1 and Marseille’s demanding environment. The Englishman scored on his debut against Lens last week, before featuring in OM’s draw against Paris FC last Saturday. His loan move was primarily designed to offer first-team exposure and regular minutes during the second half of the season, rather than to accelerate any immediate transfer decisions.

At this stage there is no purchase option included in the agreement, and Arsenal are expected to closely monitor the teenager’s development over the coming months. Marseille, for their part, are focused on stabilising performances on the pitch rather than addressing longer-term squad planning.

OM host Rennes on Tuesday night (21:10 CET) at a potentially volatile Vélodrome, with a place in the Coupe de France quarter-finals at stake, as De Zerbi’s side look to respond to recent domestic and European setbacks.GFFN | George Boxall
