Iñaki Williams has announced on Instagram that he is retiring from Ghana duty, ending a short spell that began in 2022. The player said in a post that he leaves happy and proud, confident he gave everything whenever he wore the shirt.

After winning a senior Spain cap in 2016, the Athletic forward chose in July 2022 to represent Ghana. He received his first call-up that September for friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

He made his debut on 23 September at Stade Océane in Le Havre against Brazil, a 3-0 defeat, coming on at half-time for Kamaldeen Sulemana.

In his message he reflected that Ghana had given him more than football, reconnecting him with his roots and the pride of carrying the flag. He thanked everyone involved, said Ghana would always be part of him, and added he would keep supporting the team wherever he is.

Now 32, Williams will concentrate on his Athletic career. He relies heavily on his physical attributes and wants to focus on the latter stages of his time as a Lion, while accompanying his brother Nico, who is excelling with Spain.
