Athletic supporters’ clubs gathered at Lezama to honour standout men’s and women’s players from last season, posing with fans beneath the old San Mamés arch.

According to El Correo, the Garras Saria, linked to the Sestao peña, went to Unai Simón and Daniela Agote. Agote could not attend as she is in Poland with Spain under-20 at the World Cup. Simón, from Murgia, is nominated for the Lev Yashin for the second time and is a favourite to be named goalkeeper of the year.

Peña El Corquete Rojiblanco recognised Yuri, maintaining their tradition of giving the player’s weight in wine to their choice as best of the season from San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The left-back from Zarautz takes the honours. In Ernesto Valverde’s farewell campaign, he performed at a high level to steady his team-mates.

Peña Jarrillera de Portugalete awarded the 500 minutu saria to players promoted from the B team who logged at least 500 minutes. Alejandro Rego and Elene Gurtubay were the recipients.

Peña Bizkai Buru de Bermeo presented the San Juan de Gaztelugatxe prize to midfielder Mikel Jauregizar, a local resident, as their player of the season.

Peña Athletic All Iron Femenino gave the Nekane Diez Saria to Ane Azkona, chosen by the Zorroza peñistas for a third straight year. The Navarre striker was among the standouts in Javi Lerga’s only season in charge and, now under Víctor Martín, aims to raise the bar.
