Independiente del Valle have sold 18-year-old Juan Riquelme Angulo to Premier League side Sunderland a few days before their Libertadores quarter-final against Flamengo, so the forward will not be available.

According to Globo.com, Sunderland announced the signing on the final day of the English transfer window.

A product of Del Valle’s academy, Angulo made his senior debut this season. He played 21 matches in 2026 across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing three assists.

Despite his departure, Del Valle still have their leading scorer in the continental competition. Paraguayan striker Carlos González has seven goals and is a key option for Joaquín Papa’s side.

The first leg is on 10 September at 21:30, Brasília time, at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito. The return is on 17 September at 21:30 at the Maracanã.
