Flamengo return to the Maracanã on Thursday for a Libertadores quarter-final second leg against Independiente del Valle, holding a 2-0 lead from Quito but facing opponents with formidable away form.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Ecuadorian side have been awkward travellers this year. They have nine wins in their last 10 away matches, including notable victories at LDU and at Tolima in the Libertadores.
The first leg in the altitude of Quito finished 2-0 to Flamengo, with Bruno Henrique and Léo Pereira on the scoresheet.
That advantage means the hosts can lose by one goal and still reach the semi-finals. If Del Valle win by two, the tie will be settled by penalties.
Flamengo advanced from the last 16 after drawing 1-1 with Cruzeiro at the Mineirão, then winning 2-1 at the Maracanã through Arrascaeta and Samuel Lino. Independiente del Valle beat Deportes Tolima 1-0 away, then 3-1 at home in the previous round.
Kick-off is 21:30, Brasília time, on Thursday 17, with live coverage on ESPN and Disney+.
