Villarreal are set to lean into attack under new coach Iñigo Pérez, with up to 10 final-third options. El Periódico Mediterráneo notes that the football hierarchy, led by CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles with Miguel Ángel Tena and Fernando Seguí, has assembled a deep attacking cast, pending any loans or late market tweaks and including academy options.
Competing in LaLiga, the Copa and the Champions League will demand variety. Pérez can pair two strikers, use a centre forward with attacking midfielders or deploy wide wingers.
Georges Mikautadze is a mobile, technical forward who links play and drifts left, and after growing last season he could make this his year. Gerard Moreno reads the game superbly and can operate as a nine, second striker or from the right. Ayoze Pérez offers movement and arrives to score, while Tani Oluwaseyi adds power, pace, aerial presence and pressing energy, after netting four in pre-season.
From the right, Nicolas Pepe cuts in on his left with change of pace, shots and service. Alberto Moleiro brings imagination from the left as a playmaker between the lines. Tajon Buchanan adds vertical threat on either flank and can also feature as a wing-back.
Ilias Akhomach returns already familiar with Iñigo Pérez, a brave right-sided dribbler in tight spaces. Villarreal B’s Nizar El Jmili has impressed in pre-season with skill and one-v-one intent. José Gaitán is an associative attacker with a clean strike who can play wide or as a No 10, underlining the academy pathway.
