FC Barcelona midfield ace Gavi has been sidelined for three weeks now, with the youngster dealing with a meniscus issue in the same knee that he had injured almost two years ago.
Initially, it was believed that the problem was not serious, but over time, it became evident that the Spaniard’s problem was more complicated than it seemed.
Despite the possibility of surgery being discussed, Barça have opted to continue with conservative treatment after discussion with the player’s camp.
As reported earlier today, there has been a significant improvement in Gavi’s condition, leading to the possibility of surgery fading, although it is still not entirely ruled out.
As such, Javi Miguel of AS reports that the next step for Gavi’s treatment will be decided in the coming days, with manager Hansi Flick also revealing as much in his press conference earlier today.
A summit with all parties involved is scheduled for the beginning of next week to finally decide which treatment will be followed: the conservative method or arthroscopy.
As mentioned earlier, recent reports pointed to a certain improvement in the discomfort affecting the internal meniscus of his right knee.

However, these same reports stressed that it was a day-to-day assessment and that the sensations could change from one day to the next. As such, the possibility of a setback or stagnation remains very real in this type of conservative treatment.
With that unpromising outlook, doctors, coaching staff and the player must make a decision in the coming hours.
Although arthroscopic intervention seemed a distant possibility, the club continues to regard it as the best alternative to resolve, once and for all, the discomfort in the player’s knee.
There is no doubt that the timelines differ significantly depending on the option chosen. If conservative treatment continues, the absence would be around fifteen days. If surgery is chosen, the minimum recovery time would be five to six weeks.
Gavi, who remains firm in favour of conservative treatment, trusts he can recover without surgery, while Barça are a bit more sceptical, despite acknowledging that there has been improvement in his condition.
As such, all options remain on the table and a decision will be made in the coming days.
