As FC Barcelona get set to kickstart their preparations for their next La Liga game, they have been greeted with some positive news on the injury front.

Indeed, according to SPORT, Barcelona midfielder Gavi is set to return to the pitch on Thursday and is expected to complete a significant part of the training session alongside his teammates.

It represents an important step forward after the scare he suffered in the opening game of the La Liga season against Elche.

Gavi took a heavy blow to his right leg during the match and subsequently began experiencing discomfort. Barcelona’s medical staff decided to withdraw him before half-time as a precaution.

The concern was understandable given that it was the same leg in which he previously suffered an ACL injury.

However, subsequent tests ruled out any significant damage and confirmed that the La Masia graduate had suffered nothing more than a contusion.

Since then, Gavi has missed Barcelona’s two league games against Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano.

The midfielder has followed an individual programme aimed at fully resolving the discomfort. That moment is now getting closer.

Gavi is now expected to take part in Thursday’s training session with his teammates, although Barcelona have no intention of rushing his recovery.

The priority is for him to gradually regain his confidence and match fitness.

Nonetheless, a place on the squad list for next weekend’s trip to face Valencia cannot yet be ruled out, but his progress over the coming days will determine whether he is ready to return to competitive action.

Gavi’s recovery is important for Barcelona, considering that Flick considers him one of the key players in his squad.

A fiery competitor, Gavi’s importance for the Blaugrana goes beyond what he contributes during matches.

Indeed, while the coaching staff greatly value his technical ability, intensity and competitive mentality, they place even greater emphasis on his character and influence within the dressing room.

That is why his return to the training pitch represents such welcome news for Barcelona. His progress during the next few training sessions will ultimately determine when he can return to full availability for Flick.
