Bernal’s new deal may extend his contract to three more years, with his current deal at the club expiring in 2026.

Nevertheless, the report has also issued an update on Bernal’s recovery process.

Bernal to undergo surgery next week

The report suggests Bernal is set to undergo surgery next week, one that could define his recovery process in the months to come.

Barcelona will be hoping for a successful surgery, which can expedite the youngster’s recovery.

In any case, though, the midfielder has been ruled out for the entire season and is not likely to come back before Barcelona’s pre-season campaign next summer.

Fortunately for Bernal, he has received immense support from the club as well as his teammates. Even Real Madrid’s Joan Martinez has offered his support after his season-ending injury.

The ongoing discussions regarding his renewal, once completed, could go a long way in boosting the youngster’s confidence as he looks to return to action as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Hansi Flick is looking to shuffle between Marc Casado and Eric Garcia, as the two main replacements for the injured Bernal.

Frenkie de Jong is another option, but it remains to be seen how soon the Dutchman can recover from his ongoing ankle problem.
