Barcelona’s outstanding start to the 2024/25 season under Hansi Flick continued with a convincing 4-1 victory over Girona. This win brings their goal tally to an impressive 17 goals in just five matches, giving them an average of 3.4 goals per game in La Liga.

Such a prolific scoring record highlights the attacking prowess of the team, with a variety of players contributing to this success.

In fact, seven different players have found the back of the net during these five matches: Robert Lewandowski has led the way with 4 goals, followed by Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Dani Olmo, each scoring 3.

Pedri has chipped in with 2 goals, while Jules Kounde and Ferran Torres have scored once each.

Familiar setting

Interestingly, according to AS, the last time Barcelona achieved such a high goal tally in their first five matches was back in the 2017/18 season under Ernesto Valverde.

Coincidentally, that season also saw them winning their opening five games, much like they have done this time around.

That season, Barcelona secured victories against Betis (2-0), Alaves (0-2), Espanyol (5-0), Getafe (1-2), and Eibar (6-1), resulting in a total of 17 goals at the same stage of the season.

Flick has transformed Barcelona

Under Flick’s management, Barcelona is playing with remarkable intensity. Flick insists on maintaining high pressure throughout the game, refusing to let his team become complacent.

His desire for an intense and aggressive Barcelona is evident, as they press hard and attack relentlessly, pushing for maximum effort from start to finish.

Meanwhile, looking back at the 2017/18 campaign, Barcelona finished the season 14 points clear of Atletico Madrid Madrid and 17 ahead of Real Madrid, securing the La Liga title.

That season, Lionel Messi was the standout performer, contributing nine goals by the fifth matchday. Other scorers included Sergi Roberto, Denis Suarez, Paulinho, Gerard Deulofeu, and Luis Suarez.

Though the goals were more concentrated around Messi then, this season sees Barcelona’s goals being distributed more evenly among the squad, giving them greater tactical flexibility moving forward.
