Liverpool could be forced into a sudden, unplanned transfer after a new injury. Things haven't gone to plan.
Liverpool spent an awful lot of money over the summer but they did ignore one area: midfield. The Reds didn't change anything about their out-and-out midfield options, instead sticking with the same group from last season.
And that was the same group as the season before that (minus Thiago). It's a selection of players brought in by Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke and the feeling was that Liverpool would try to rebuild their midfield this coming summer.
However, things haven't gone to plan this season. The Reds have struggled for consistency and Arne Slot is using his midfield very differently.
There are sometimes as many as five recognised midfielders out on the pitch - Slot's entire group, essentially. It risks leaving everyone out of fitness if this is the plan all season long.
Though, there is supposed to be another midfielder. And an injury may mean he needs replacing.
The Athletic reports that Stefan Bajcetic has another injury and it now looks increasingly unlikely that he features for Liverpool's first-team this season. That's despite the Spaniard having been included in the first-team squad this season.
The plan was for Bajcetic to backup the stars, essentially. He'd get his moments and potentially force his way into the fray - that now won't happen.
And without him, Liverpool risk running themselves short. A couple of ill-timed injuries would leave them without enough midfielders to actually play the current system, for one.
