Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd may miss the March international break after suffering muscle injury with Marseille.

Concern for Morocco before squad announcement

Nayef Aguerd suffered muscle problem that could keep him out of the upcoming Morocco national team camp creating concern for new head coach Mohamed Ouahbi.

The Olympique Marseille defender missed his team’s match against Toulouse on Saturday because of the injury. Reports say the Moroccan international has been dealing with physical problems since the end of last year due to repeated pain in his inner thigh muscles.

According to reports cited by SNRTnews, Marseille’s coaching staff prefer not to take risks with the player to avoid making the injury worse.

Surgery possibility being studied

Medical staff at Marseille are closely monitoring Aguerd’s condition. If the muscle problem continues, the defender could even undergo surgery although no final decision has been announced yet.

For now the French club is taking a careful approach to his recovery which makes his participation in Morocco’s next international window uncertain.

A setback for new coach Ouahbi

Aguerd’s potential absence would be a difficult blow for Mohamed Ouahbi who recently took charge of the national team after the departure of Walid Regragui.

The new coach is preparing to announce his squad for two upcoming friendly matches:
