Injury woes: FC Bayern will be without three players

On July 20, the FC Bayern pros will begin their preseason training. The record champions are hoping to get into a rhythm very quickly and stay injury-free during the preseason.

That’s because Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry are just returning from injuries and are still in rehab. Ismael Saibari suffered an injury before Morocco’s World Cup exit, and Alphonso Davies was only able to play in one of five games for Canada.

That’s why FC Bayern will be rounding out the squad with several youth players during preseason. But that’s precisely where new problems now loom.

Three Bayern prospects are out

Here’s why: FC Bayern’s amateur team has already begun preseason training and has played its first friendly matches under new coach Dante. And that’s where the first pieces of bad news have already emerged.

The record champions announced in a press release on Monday that three players have been sidelined. According to the announcement, the reserve team will have to do without center backs Tarek Buchmann and David Heindl, as well as forward Noah Codjo-Evora, until further notice.

Buchmann has suffered a syndesmotic ligament injury, while Codjo-Evora has a metacarpal fracture. Both have already undergone surgery and will be sidelined for an extended period. In addition, Heindl has suffered a ligament injury in his ankle. He, too, will first undergo a rehabilitation phase.

For Buchmann in particular—who was most recently on loan to 1. FC Nürnberg—this latest injury is a massive setback. He is considered a great talent but has repeatedly struggled with injury problems.

Buchmann, who is under contract with FC Bayern through 2027, was sidelined for 118 days last season due to a foot injury. A shoulder injury, two muscle tears—one of which led to protracted complications—and a torn lateral ligament have also sidelined him in the past.
