Last Sunday (23), Corinthians released behind-the-scenes footage of their 2-1 victory over São Paulo at Arena Barueri, in the first leg of the Paulista Women's Championship semifinal. The video shared by the club includes moments of pre-match talks, halftime instructions, and the post-game conversation led by Lucas Piccinato. In a firm and direct speech, the coach highlighted the significance of the result and reinforced the necessary attitude for the decisive match.

Before the match began, Piccinato emphasized that the first semifinal game would not be definitive but could become a crucial step. During an extensive talk in the locker room, he demanded competitiveness and calmness to execute the game plan.

“Our first legs were very good. And that brings peace of mind for us to play the second match at home. I understood that today this doesn't decide anything, but it can indeed take an important step towards where we want to go. Let's start watching the game, playing a competitive game at our pace, controlling actions, as we know how to do. It will make a huge difference, so we have an advantage to play in a place where we are always very happy”, he stated.

“Don't despair. There are 90 minutes here, another 90 there. Playing a good 90 here will allow us to play at home with our fans in a different condition, but play well here. Deliver a big game, leave here victorious, leave here with an advantage,” the coach added.

At halftime, the tone became even more energetic. Although Corinthians showed superiority, Piccinato did not hide his irritation with mistakes that gave the rival space. He warned about the importance of details in decisive games and asked for an immediate response from the team.

“The game was completely under our control, and we put the game in circumstances that, even technically playing a lousy game, we were in control. Lelê did a huge job to get us back in the game, and we are alive. Give maximum intensity to this ball (…). Big games like this are decided by details”, he stated.

“We had two details here, the last five minutes, a mess. Focus to come back better. Those on the bench focus because there will be a big change, in ten minutes I'll change three or four. Focus to make a different game, to take control of the game, not let São Paulo think 'now it's us'. It's not us. The control of the game was working. We just need to adapt this Gio issue and keep our foot on the ball. If there's no foot on the ball, we won't win this damn thing”, he added.

When the match ended, already on the field, Piccinato praised the collective performance but reinforced that the advantage gained is small. He demanded total focus on preparation for the final match, which will take place on December 4th, at Neo Química Arena.

“We need to take ten days until the next match for, first, rest, then preparation with a lot of quality as it was in other knockout moments and we've done it. This is the first request. We know how difficult it is to face São Paulo and even at our home it will be damn difficult. We need to play a better game. We need to deliver more. Group victory, those who came in did a great job. Keep an eye out, without conceding the silly goal we conceded, not putting ourselves in the uphill situation we put ourselves in the game. Congratulations to the group for the beautiful match. First step”, he concluded.

With the 2-1 triumph, thanks to two goals by Jhonson, Corinthians plays the return match with an advantage. If they advance, they will face Palmeiras or Ferroviária in the competition final.
