Though it’s been a rough season for Andy Diouf so far, the 22-year-old seems to be picking up a head of steam.

Indeed, the former Lens man only recently opened his UEFA Champions League account with a late goal against Borussia Dortmund.

Furthermore, his second-half strike last night marked his third goal for Inter and his second in the Coppa Italia.

In addition to extending his tally, Diouf soaked up the limelight as Inter’s headline performer at the Brianteo Stadium.

His ball-carrying ability and determination stood out, making him a focal point in Inter’s build-up play.

Therefore, Cristian Chivu might want to consider starting him more often in Serie A matches, especially now that Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu are in the pits.

“I’m very happy,” he said, “Because I scored and, above all, because we won. If I can help the team, it’s a great satisfaction for me.

“It was an important victory, even if it was hard-fought.

“It’s never easy to play games like this in the Cup, but the goal was to advance to the next round, and we succeeded.

“I’m happy both for the minutes I played and for the goal.

“The ultimate goal is always the same: to help the team in every way possible.”

Then, he commented on his long-awaited return to the middle of the field.

“Playing in midfield as a central midfielder is easier for me,” Diouf added. “I feel very comfortable in that position.

“I had never played as a fifth midfielder in my career, so now I feel more at ease.”

Finally, he confirmed that he has settled at San Siro after a difficult start.

“I’m feeling better and better, step by step,” Diouf claimed. “Now I can play more easily because I know the team and my teammates.
