Carlos Augusto delivered an impressive performance in Inter Milan’s 1-1 draw with CF Monterrey in their FIFA Club World Cup opener.
Speaking to Sportitalia via FCInterNews, the Brazilian wingback hailed the team’s recovery after the Champions League debacle.
Memories of a humiliating loss in Munich are still fresh.
However, it’s time for Inter to turn the page and focus on the future under the stewardship of new boss Cristian Chivu.
It’s not easy, especially considering how things panned out in the final month of the 2024/25 season.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri slumped to a 5-0 rout to Paris Saint-Germain and surrendered the Scudetto to Napoli.
On top of that, Simone Inzaghi decided to turn his back on the club days after the Munich fiasco.
Yet, Chivu’s return to his old stomping ground marks the beginning of a new chapter.
Based on last night’s game in Pasadena, Carlos Augusto could have a more prominent role under the new regime.

Inter fought back from an early deficit to hold Monterrey to a frustrating draw at the Rose Bowl.
Augusto was the architect of the Italian giants’ comeback.
Indeed, he served Lautaro Martinez on a silver platter for the equalizer.
Furthermore, his overall performance brimmed with confidence.
“We started a bit poorly. It was hot and the pitch was a bit different, but those are excuses I don’t like to make,” he said after the game.
“We found our shape and created chances. You have to stay alert on every ball; South American teams are tough to face.
“Now we have two games we need to win.”
Moreover, he admitted the Champions League defeat belongs to the past.
“Lingering effects from the Champions League final? Those are just excuses,” Augusto added.
“A new staff has arrived and brought in some fresh ideas. I came in after the international break and trained for three days.
“But this group is full of smart guys who know how to handle tough moments.
“The loss to PSG still stings, but that’s the past; we have to stay focused on our path.
“We know this is a strong group and we can do well in this competition.”
Cristian Chivu & Luis Henrique
Chivu failed to win on his touchline debut, but Inter showed numerous promising signs in their opening Group E outing.
“We’ve only worked together for a short time, but he’s brought respect and confidence after that final defeat.
“But like I said, the group is strong, and we know what we have to do. We’ve got two more matches.”
Meanwhile, Luis Henrique made his Nerazzurri debut, coming off the bench to replace Benjamin Pavard.
“He’s like a brother,” Augusto said. “We Brazilians always get along well.
“There’s a lot of tactical work here in Italy, but he can do really well.”
