Inter Milan have emerged as the favorites to sign Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, who appears to be on his way out of the club.
The 32-year-old has been the Aquile’s first choice since making the move from Spezia in the summer of 2022. He briefly lost his starting place to Christos Mandas in the final months of the 2024/25 campaign, but Maurizio Sarri reinstated him as his ultimate first choice upon his return to the club last summer.
In March, Provedel suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgical intervention. During his time on the sidelines, he was replaced by the unsung Edoardo Motta, who went on to make a name for himself, especially after his heroics in the penalty shootouts against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia semi-final.
Therefore, Lazio could decide to focus on the 21-year-old Italian, or even reinstate Mandas, who will return from an unsuccessful loan stint at Bournemouth, leaving Provedel as the odd man out.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio and Provedel will hold a meeting this week to discuss the goalkeeper’s expected departure. The Friulian custodian’s contract will expire in June 2027, yet another factor pressing the Aquile to sell him this summer.
In the meantime, Inter are keeping close tabs on the situation, awaiting the meeting’s outcome. The Nerazzurri are confident they will sign the experienced custodian, whom they have identified as the ideal profile to pair with their new No.1, Josep Martinez, following Yann Sommer’s departure.
Despite Lazio’s complicated campaign, Provedel had registered an impressive 11 clean sheets in his 27 Serie A appearances before sustaining an injury. He had also kept 21 shutouts in the 2022/23 season, matching the Serie A record set by Gianluigi Buffon and Morgan De Sanctis.
