While the January window is still weeks away, Inter Milan are already mapping out plans for a major defensive overhaul next summer, with Oumar Solet and Joel Ordonez identified as main targets to strengthen the back line.

As Tuttosport reports, the contracts of Acerbi, de Vrij and Darmian all expire in just over seven months.

Indeed, it is a looming situation that will shape the club’s long-term strategy.

Club executives Beppe Marotta, Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin are reportedly convinced by the need for additions.

By summer 2026, Inter will need to sign at least one, if not two, new central defenders.

The expectation is that Manuel Akanji, currently on loan from Manchester City with a €15 million option to buy, will be signed permanently.

Indeed, regardless of the obligation conditions tied to appearances.

However, if Cristian Chivu feels the need to reinforce as early as January, Inter already have key names in mind.

Oumar Solet of Udinese, valued around €25 million, is one such player.

Additionally, Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge, rated closer to €30 million, is currently at the top of the list.

Further options being monitored include Mario Gila of Lazio.

Furthermore, Edis Muharemovic of Sassuolo (born 2003, with Juventus holding a 50% resale clause), and Tiago Gabriel of Lecce (born 2004).

For now, though, Inter’s focus remains firmly on the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan on November 23.
