Inter Milan have renewed their interest in Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni and reached out to the Italy youngster directly as they plan one of the most significant defensive overhauls in the club’s recent history.
Indeed, which was effectively ended almost before it began by a serious injury.
The club have made their interest known to the player himself, who is not indifferent to the idea of returning to Italy, even while acknowledging he plays in the best league in the world.
The scale of Inter’s defensive needs makes the pursuit logical.
Acerbi, De Vrij and Darmian all depart on free transfers this summer.
Both Bastoni and Carlos Augusto face uncertain futures.
The club will meet with Oaktree next week to present their market plans, and defensive reinforcements are at the top of the agenda.
He is young, Italian and was already on their radar before Liverpool moved for him from Parma a year ago.
At this stage it remains an idea, a genuine interest with no concrete structure yet in place.
Inter are exploring whether Liverpool would be open to a loan with an option to buy, an arrangement that would suit all parties given Leoni’s need for regular football after such a difficult debut campaign in England.
