Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram admitted his team were caught out by AC Milan’s counter-attacks in the 1-0 derby defeat at San Siro, comparing their rivals’ transitions to those of Real Madrid.

Christian Pulisic’s goal proved decisive, as Milan battled to a hard-earned three points.

Meanwhile, Inter struggled to convert their chances, including a header from Thuram that brought a brilliant save from Mike Maignan.

Speaking to DAZN, via FCInter1908, the Frenchman reflected on that moment and the match as a whole.

Thuram acknowledged he could have done better with his headed chance, saying: “Maybe I should have aimed at the near post, not the far post.”

Maignan’s reaction stop ultimately denied Inter a lifeline in a tight game where efficiency proved the difference.

Despite the frustration, Thuram insisted there is no panic inside the dressing room. He stressed Inter will analyse the defeat internally under Cristian Chivu.

“I can’t really explain it. With Chivu we’ll find solutions, he’s good and gives us advice. It’s November, and even if it was an important match, there are still many games to play.”

The striker pointed to Inter’s possession-based style as something that naturally exposes them to transitions if not executed perfectly.

In praising Milan’s ability to strike on the break, he said: “The way we play, with the ball, we have to avoid getting hit on the counter.

“Milan, like Real Madrid, are the strongest team in Europe on the counter-attack. We played a serious match. We’re on the right path, even if we’re not happy.”

Thuram concluded by reinforcing his confidence in the squad and coaching staff, urging supporters to stay calm after a disappointing derby.

“The important thing is to have faith in ourselves, in the coach and in his project. One defeat doesn’t change everything. We’re on the right track, there’s always room to improve, not everything should be thrown away.”
