The Nerazzurri arrive in top form after clinching a domestic double last term. Under Cristian Chivu, Inter carried that momentum straight into pre-season, remaining unbeaten in summer friendlies. They recorded high-profile 1-1 draws with Manchester City and AC Milan, then beat Juventus 2-1, finishing preparations with a 1-0 victory over Real Betis.
Heading into their opening league match at San Siro, Inter have a strong and almost fully fit squad under head coach Cristian Chivu. The reigning Italian champions face few injury concerns, giving Chivu considerable tactical options as they start their title defense. One exception is veteran midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who remains sidelined due to a disciplinary suspension that dates back to the end of last season. That minor absence is counterbalanced by a heavily reworked defense after a major summer turnover. New high-profile addition John Stones, and Manuel Akanji are expected to lead the central backline, filling the void left by departures such as Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij. In attack, captain Lautaro Martínez continues to be the main striker, though rising talent Francesco Pio Esposito may share attacking duties.
Possible Inter Milan starting XI: J. Martinez; Akanji, Stones, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Dimarco; Esposito, L. Martinez
The match will kick off at 5:30pm BST on Saturday, 22nd August.
