Inter Milan vs Torino – Match preview and team news

  1. Date: Wednesday, 4th February.
  2. Kick-off: 8pm BST.
  3. Venue: U-Power Stadium, Monza.

Inter Milan team news

Nicolo Barella and Hakan Çalhanoglu remain sidelined. Çalhanoglu targets a return against Sassuolo, while Barella aims for the Derby d’Italia.

Denzel Dumfries is unavailable with a return expected in three weeks. Carlos Augusto has not played the last match against Cremonese, but he is not back in training and might be involved in this game.

Despite these absences, Inter maintain excellent depth in their squad. Cristian Chivu might even decide to rotate the squad and give players like Stefan De Vrij and Joseph Martinez a chance in the starting lineup.

In attack, Lautaro Martinez is in brilliant form and will look to continue his goalscoring touch in the Coppa Italia as well. To support him, either Marcus Thuram or Francisco Pio Esposito will partner with him up front.

Torino team news

Marco Baroni’s squad will be significantly weakened by injuries for this fixture. Ardian Ismajli is ruled out for 20-30 days with a flexor strain after the Como match. Ivan Ilic, Gvidas Gineitis, Zakaria Aboukhlal, Adam Masina, Perr Schuurs, and Zannos Savva, will all miss out due to their respective injury issues.

As Giovanni Simeone continues to suffer from a thigh injury, Duván Zapata, Alieu Njie, Adams and recent arrival Sandro Kulenovic are vying for the starting centre-forward role.

Kulenovic has only just been joined in Turin by midfielder Matteo Prati and centre-back Luca Marianucci, with both new signings making their first appearance for the club on Sunday.

Form

Inter Milan

Cristian Chivu’s side top Serie A with 18 wins from 23 matches, maintaining a formidable position in the title race.

The Nerazzurri recently defeated Cremonese 2-0 away on 1 February, securing their tenth win in their last 11 Serie A games.

This victory followed a commanding 6-2 win over Pisa on 23 January and a 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on 28 January.

Torino

Torino’s 1-0 win over Lecce on 1 February brought respite after mixed results. They remain inconsistent with just five wins in their last 16 games.

A 6-0 defeat to Como on 24 January highlighted their defensive concerns. Despite their struggles, they have demonstrated cup pedigree by eliminating Roma.

Predicted lineups

Inter Milan: Martinez; Bisseck, De Vrij, Acerbi; Diouf, Sucic, Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez.

Torino: Paleari; Marianucci, Maripan, Coco; Pedersen, Vlasic, Ilkhan, Prati, Obrador; Adams, Kulenovic.
