Inter Milan and Torino clash in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday night, with a semi-final spot on the line. The winners will go on to face either Napoli or Como in the last four.
Cristian Chivu’s men come into the tie flying high at the top of Serie A, having taken 18 victories from their opening 23 league fixtures to strengthen their title credentials.
They warmed up for this cup encounter with a 2-0 win away at Cremonese on 1 February, their tenth success in an impressive run of 11 league games.
That result followed a 6-2 triumph over Pisa on 23 January and a 2-0 Champions League victory against Borussia Dortmund on 28 January, underlining their fine recent form.
Inter are not at full strength, though. Nicolo Barella and Hakan Çalhanoglu are still out of action, with the Turkish midfielder eyeing a comeback against Sassuolo and Barella working towards a return in time for the Derby d’Italia.
Denzel Dumfries is also sidelined, with his recovery expected to take around three weeks. Carlos Augusto missed the win over Cremonese, but he has now rejoined training and could feature in this quarter-final.
Even with key absentees, Inter’s squad depth remains a major asset. Chivu is in a position to freshen things up, and could opt to rotate his side by handing starting roles to the likes of Stefan de Vrij and goalkeeper Joseph Martinez.
Up front, Lautaro Martinez is enjoying a rich vein of form and will be eager to extend his scoring streak in the Coppa Italia. The Inter captain is set to be joined by either Marcus Thuram or youngster Francisco Pio Esposito, with both options offering strong support in the forward line.
Possible Inter Milan starting XI: Martinez; Bisseck, De Vrij, Acerbi; Diouf, Sucic, Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 4th February.
