Inter Milan will not change their transfer plans for this summer window even if Valentin Carboni joins Marseille.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, who report that the priority is to sign a defender even if Carboni leaves. A departure of Marko Arnautovic could change things however.

This summer, 19-year-old attacking midfielder Carboni could leave Inter.

There is almost no question that the Argentine will join another club. But what is still unclear is whether he will go out on another loan or leave on a permanent basis.

Last summer, Carboni joined Monza on loan. He spent last season on loan with the Brianzoli.

And this time around Inter are reportedly open to either loaning Carboni out again or selling him on a permanent basis.

The club most strongly linked with Carboni this summer has been Marseille.

The Ligue 1 club have reportedly made the Argentine one of their major targets for the transfer window. Even after signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United they remain keen.

Inter have already listened to offers from Marseille for Carboni.

If the Nerazzurri are to sell the teenager, they would want a big fee. Reports indicate that they are holding out for a bid in the region of €35-40 million.

On the other hand, recent reports have indicated that Marseille could aim to sign Carboni on an initial loan deal containing a purchase option.

Inter are reportedly aiming to have a buyback option on Carboni whether they sell him or loan him out with a purchase option, in any event.

If Inter are to cash in this summer, it will certainly mean a big cash influx.

But according to Mediaset, the Nerazzurri’s plan would not be to spend that money right away.

Rather, Inter will stick to their existing plan no matter what. That is to sign a left-sided defender.

The Nerazzurri want to bring in a defender who can deputize for Alessandro Bastoni in the back three while Carlos Augusto plays at wingback during the extended absence of Tajon Buchanan.

Mediaset reports that Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is not a major target for Inter despite rumours. On the other hand, the broadcaster anticipates, they are very keen on Nantes defender Nathan Zeze.

Signing a defender for this purpose is the priority, Mediaset reports. Whether Carboni leaves for a fee or not.

Inter will not sign a forward to replace Carboni.

On the other hand, if Marko Arnautovic heads for the exit door – following Joaquin Correa who Inter will offload one way or another – then Mediaset reports Inter will sign a striker to replace him.
