Inter Milan could sacrifice Davide Frattesi before the transfer deadline as Cristian Chivu continues pushing for a move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

According to Tuttosport, Inter believe departures for Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani are necessary before they can make their decisive move for Jones. The club’s pursuit of the Liverpool midfielder is therefore closely connected to creating financial and squad space.

Frattesi endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign, making 33 appearances but starting only six times and failing to register a goal or an assist. Inter value him at around €30 million, although Tuttosport suggests an offer of roughly €25m including bonuses could be enough to secure the club’s approval.

Where the Jones fee stands

Tuttosport’s latest update claims Inter already have an agreement with Jones, while Liverpool continue to demand around €40m for the midfielder. The reported valuations leave a gap between the two clubs.

An earlier linked loan arrangement involving Jones and Frattesi did not proceed. According to SempreInter, Liverpool withdrew its loan proposal for Jones, preventing Frattesi’s proposed move from going ahead.

Juventus remain among Frattesi’s possible destinations, with Luciano Spalletti an admirer of the Italy international. A move could offer Frattesi the chance for a reset after a frustrating campaign.

What Inter are betting on

Jones would offer Chivu a different midfield profile: technically comfortable, physically strong and capable of operating in several roles. Inter believe those qualities could translate well to Serie A.

If Inter can move Frattesi for around €25-30m and reinvest that fee in Jones, the plan is understandable. However, Jones’ lack of guaranteed starts at Liverpool means Inter would still be betting on Chivu helping him reach another level.
