Ipswich expert view as Conor Townsend set for West Brom return after injury-hit spell | OneFootball

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Conor Townsend, 33, is undergoing a medical on Friday ahead of a return to Albion two years after leaving, having spent six years with the club. Ipswich Town correspondent Stuart Watson has predicted the move can help the left-back get his career back on track.

The second season of his Ipswich spell was wrecked by an ACL sustained in pre-season in France on the eve of last term. He did not play a minute in the Championship. In year one he made 10 appearances under Kieran McKenna, including six in the Premier League with three starts.

Signed for around half a million pounds as cover for Leif Davis, Townsend looked dependable when called upon and featured in cup ties. His league starts came against Villa, away at Bournemouth and at Wolves. Watson also highlighted his leadership and personality.

The ACL struck last summer in Auxerre, after which he was omitted from the 25-man squad. Watson said he had reached the latter stages of rehab by March and hoped he would be in a good place physically to kick-start his career.

At The Hawthorns he will play second fiddle to Callum Styles, a reliable regular since replacing Townsend in 2024. Styles was a two-time player of the season award winner last term.
