West Brom, Blackburn & Millwall should all be ready loan bids for Ipswich Town's Alex Palmer.

Premier League side Ipswich Town are ready to loan out reserve goalkeeper Alex Palmer, which should have West Brom, Blackburn and Millwall on red alert.

The Tractor Boys were previously looking for a whopping £6m for their back-up shot stopper, but according to a fresh report from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page on Sunday morning, they are now happy to let him leave on loan.

This news comes just two days before the end of the summer transfer window, leaving Palmer with limited time to find a new club, or be stuck as the back-up to Kjell Scherpen until at least January.

The 30-year-old played just 10 Championship matches for Ipswich last season in their promotion-winning campaign, conceding 10 goals and keeping just one clean sheet.

Now, following the latest update from Nixon, Football League World decided to look at three Championship clubs who should be readying bids to sign the experienced goalkeeper.

West Brom

The Hawthorns is a familiar place to Palmer, as he rose through the youth ranks there and went on to make 104 senior appearances for West Brom, before leaving for Ipswich in 2025.

Since then, the Baggies have struggled in the Championship, but have now been reinvigorated by the appointment of club legend James Morrison, with two wins and one defeat in their opening three league matches this term.

However, Albion are running thin on the ground in their goalkeeping department, with Max O'Leary and Matt Ingram the only two senior shot-stoppers currently at the club.

With that in mind, a move to bring Palmer back to The Hawthorns on a temporary basis would be a smart idea from Morrison, as he would settle in quickly and instantly improve the squad.

Going back to a place where he previously thrived would also likely be hugely beneficial to Palmer, who's had a difficult 18 months at Ipswich, with minutes proving hard to come by.

Blackburn Rovers

Another club that could look to sign Palmer is Blackburn Rovers, who are currently under the stewardship of Tony Mowbray, someone the goalkeeper briefly worked with before his move to Ipswich in February 2025.

It's been a solid start to the campaign for the Blue and Whites with four points on the board in their opening three matches, leaving them sitting in 10th place in the Championship table.

However, their current first-choice keeper Balasz Toth's future remains uncertain heading into the final 48 hours of the transfer window, as Scottish giants Celtic are reportedly keeping tabs on the Hungarian international.

Should a sale be sanctioned, and a replacement is required, Blackburn could do far worse than landing Palmer on loan, as he will bring a wealth of Championship experience, and slot into Mowbray's squad quickly and easily.

A loan deal would also be much more achievable within the time constraints of the transfer window rather than sourcing a permanent replacement for Toth, making Palmer an appealing option for Rovers.

Millwall

After an excellent start to the season, it all came crashing down for Millwall on Saturday, as they were thumped 5-1 by promotion rivals Southampton at St Mary's.

Whilst one result early on doesn't define a season, this will come as a concerning blow to boss Alex Neil, particularly after his side looked so dominant in their opening two league matches.

One area of the pitch that still needs looking at for the Lions is in between the sticks, with Lukas Jensen out with a long-term injury, leaving Max Crocombe, George Evans and Joel Coleman, who aren't quite at that top Championship level.

Millwall loaned in experienced Championship keeper Anthony Patterson last term, and could look to do the same by bringing Palmer to East London on a temporary basis.

With promotion being the goal for Neil's side this season, bringing in a promotion-winner with plenty of Championship know-how would be a smart move, giving them a more reliable and experienced option whilst Jensen remains unavailable.

Then, when Jensen returns to full fitness, he and Palmer could provide healthy competition for each other as they both push for that number one shirt.
